Better Left Unsaid (released 2006)
Self Produced
This three-piece, based in Washington state, play a moderate pop punk rock with hints of emo rock throw in for good measure. At first I thought I had stumbled across a lost album from the Movielife! Something More Than Nothing play a similarly styled rock, that is just as agreeable as the Movielife's greatest hits. The best part is that, while a few of the Movielife's tracks really hit you, Something More Than Nothing's album hits on all tracks. The songs aren't all fast paced stingers, they flirt around with the mellow guitar driven melodramatic moods. I like it! You still get the feelings of conviction and emotionally charged lyrics, and vocals sounds that build on each other. Additionally, the musicianship is impeccable. On all of these songs, the band mixes things up a bit, keeping the guitar the guiding force, closely balancing out with the vocals. The rhythm section doesn't let you down either, every bass line is deliberate and the drums are heartily smashed to tiny pieces! There is a lot of raw energy and excitement with this release and the band shows it throughout the album. "Better Left Unsaid" is fantastic release for fans of melodic pop punk rock in the vein of some of the more excitable and well-known emo driven pop punk bands. -MG
